The 2009 Oregon Legislature limited the number of acres that can be Stack Burned in the Willamette Valley to 1000 acres per year through 2012, thereafter, none.
Stack Burning registration is conducted two times per year: January 2 through January 31; September 1 through September 30.

Changes to the Smoke Management (Field Burning) Program
The 2009 Oregon Legislature adopted Senate Bill 528 reducing the number of acres that grass seed growers in the Willamette Valley can burn.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) manages the Smoke Management Program under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
